Where it is
Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park sits in Quang Binh Province in north-central Vietnam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its karst caves.
Best time to go
The dry season, roughly February to August, offers the most reliable conditions. Many multi-day cave tours pause during the September to January flood season.
Getting there
Dong Hoi is the nearest city, with an airport and a station on the North-South railway. Phong Nha village is about 45 minutes away by road.
The caves
The region holds hundreds of caves, from short show caves you can walk into to Son Doong, the largest cave passage on the planet.
Who runs the tours
Expedition-style caves such as Son Doong, Tu Lan and Hang En are visited on guided tours with licensed operators. Son Doong is run under an exclusive permit.
Currency
The Vietnamese dong (VND). Carry some cash for the village, and confirm payment methods with your operator when you book.
